It seems the world is increasingly jaded about heroes. Some of it’s for good reason. They are multibillion dollar franchises and the centers of controversies and the collectors of social media followings. And despite this, we think there’s still something to heroics in the modern age. For this call, we want your lost heroes, your disappointments, your antihero darlings, but we also want your mother’s quiet patience, your small neighborhood victory, your saving of yourself. Also, don’t we all want somebody who saves the goddamn world in the end? That’s all.  As always, wow us. Thrill us. Never bore us. We’re eager to read your best. Deadline 9/15.

“No surprise in the writer, no surprise in the reader.” – Frost

We’ve always been drawn to writing which favors curiosity. The best writing occupies the space between constants, favors variability, and leaves the prescriptive behind. In a way all those works are doing some similar. Exploring the unknown. We want work which dares to take new paths, challenge perspectives, or lands off the map altogether. We want tense, imaginative, literary-quality writing that dares explore new spaces. That’s all.  As always, wow us. Thrill us. Never bore us. We’re eager to read your best. Deadline 9/15.

We live in an increasingly visual world, and writing is no exception. Graphic novels. Erasures. Photographic essays. Comics. Visual poetry. Cross-genre. There are probably entire categories of visual writing that we’ve never heard of. We want those too. We’re after literary-quality writing with a visual component. Fiction, nonfiction, poetry, or some combination thereof. As always, wow us. Thrill us. Never bore us. We’re eager to read your best. Deadline 9/15.
